Just when Nigerians are getting used to living without the fear of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the dreaded disease is witnessing a resurgence in the country.

Information reaching News Express has it that the disease is presently ravaging a high-brow Lagos school, throwing students, teachers, the management as well, as parents and guardians, into panic.

The management of the school known as Grange alerted parents and guardians of the troubling development over the weekend and is making frantic efforts to contain the spread of the disease.

Head of the school, Abra Stoakley, briefed parents and guardians in a letter dated 26th June, 2022, explaining that “there are currently fewer than fifteen pupils affected”. Stoakley also outlined measures being taken by the 64 years school founded by British expatriates to safeguard the pupils.

The letter reads:

“Dear Parent or Guardian. I wanted to take the opportunity to inform you that Grange is currently managing a small outbreak of COVID-19. There are currently fewer than fifteen pupils affected.

“Any positive test result has resulted in contact tracing to identify the presence of community spread. Our new Head Nurse is working with our staff to ensure that parents are informed if their child has been in contact with another child who has tested positive.

“We had hoped that we had left COVID-19 behind us, but obviously this is not the case. If your child complains of cold-like symptons, fever and /or a bad headache, please get them tested.

“Please also remember to send your child to school with a mask and a spare.

“Thank you for your support and understanding.”

News of the outbreak at Grange School came hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 247 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, with Lagos State accounting for 203 cases. The new infections took the total number recorded in Nigeria to 256,958 since the pandemic started.

NCDC disclosed that the 247 new cases were from June 21 to 24, with FCT trailing Lagos with 17 cases, followed by Rivers (14), Cross River (12) and Kano (1).

In all, 256,958 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Nigeria, with 250,177 discharged and 3,144 deaths recorded in 36 states and the FCT.
