Chief of Defence Staff, Ge Lucky Irabor
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly condemned the resurgence of kidnappings and violent attacks of Igbo communities “by armed Fulani terrorists in the South East states, particularly the recent upsurge in armed Fulani insurgency in Enugu and Abia states”.
HURIWA is charging the political leaders of South East extraction, traditional rulers, leaders of cultural, civil rights and diaspora Igbos to work collectively to take worldwide actions to compel the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to stop terrorism choreographed from Abuja by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and their armed Fulani affiliates, both from within and those imported from Mali, Chad and Niger to destabilize the Igbo region.
HURIWA said the most immediate step is for the Igbos to take legal steps to put to an end to the coordinated attacks on Eastern Security Network and other voluntary armed vigilantes set up by Igbo youths to stave off external incursions by armed Fulani terrorists into South East which seems to be enjoying the tacit blessing of some powerful forces in government at the centre.
HURIWA said Igbo citizens globally must collectively galvanise strategies to protect Igboland because the current bunch of unpatriotic and rabid Igbo haters who were imposed since 2015 as Governors in the South East have betrayed the Igbo region by failing to take coordinated actions to protect their people and their Motherland.
HURIWA has therefore condemned absolutely the members and officers of the armed forces of Nigeria for going after Igbo youths who due to the frustration of the lack of leadership on the part of Governors of the Igbo States, decided on their own to float the Eastern Security Network made up of Youth vigilantes of Igbo stock to go after armed Fulani attackers of farmers and villagers in the South East of Nigeria.
HURIWA said the Armed forces of Nigeria in collaboration with some anti-people governors like Mr. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, flooded the Igbo States with imported armed security forces whose only stock in trade is to crush the well intentioned Eastern Security Network thereby leaving the Igbo States porous and making ways for armed Fulani herdsmen attacks which have resumed in Abia and Enugu with possible infiltration of other places in Southern Nigeria.
HURIWA noted that since the Imo State born Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria Rt. Reverend Uche Kanu was whisked off by armed Fulani terrorists in Lokpanta Abia State and released after payment of ransom of N100 million was paid to them, armed Fulani terrorists have increased the dimensions of their organised attacks in Enugu and Abia States but the Armed forces that are carrying out what they termed as special assignments in the region have conspired with the invaders to seek to destabilize the Igbo speaking region apparently because the bulk of the commanders of the armed forces are Fulani Muslims like the armed Fulani terrorists.
HURIWA recalled that no fewer than four indigenes of Ikem community in Isi-Uzo local Council of Enugu State have been abducted in the past two weeks with different sums of ransom paid for their release
HURIWA in a Statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, blamed the Army, the Police and the Department of State Services in the South East for deliberately conspiring with some conflict entrepreneurs to let armed Fulani terrorists to have a free reign in Igboland, even as the Armed forces, rather than cooporate and partner with the Eastern Security Network has decided, due to hatred of Igbos, to go after these vigilantes who have volunteered to defend their native lands from attacks by strange Fulani terrorists.
HURIWA condemns these attacks as an embarrassment to Ndigbo because it is shocking that the Igbo region with properly constituted political authority has now been abandoned by the politicians like the governors and the legislators to pursue their selfish agenda of retaining political power in 2023 election not minding if every Igbo residents of South East is decimated by the rampaging armed Fulani terrorists.
HURIWA is serving a 76 hours ultimatum on the South East Governors to stop the incessant killings of their citizens or else the civil society communities will mobilise Igbo people to begin indefinite civil disobedience protests which may snowball into a mini revolution which may sweep off the current political office holders who are keeping quiet as armed Fulani terrorists are unleashing torrents of violence and bloodletting.
“It is just a matter of time and these political saboteurs who are doing nothing whilst foreign intruders with their Miyetti Allah sponsors are destroying the South East, they themselves will be destroyed and disgraced out of power. Power without responsibility is useless,” HURIWA said.
