Women Arise President, Dr Okei-Odumakin
Foremost rights group, Women Arise, has expressed shock over Thursday’s murder of a school girl in Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu (better known as Deborah Samuel), over alleged blasphemy.
The group in a statement on Friday signed by its President, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, said it “received the news of the cruel lynching of Ms Deborah Samuel, a 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto with trepidation.”
“We stand to condemn such criminal act in strongest terms as life is sacred and should never be snuffed out of any human being without the judgement of a court of law,” Women Arise said.
The group implored “our people and the government of Sokoto State to eschew violence and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book so as to deter others.”
