Dr Hadiza Balarabe, Kaduna State Deputy Governor, has urged journalists on the need to be objective in their reportage.

Balarabe made the appeal on Thursday when she received a delegation of the Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council at the Government House in Kaduna.

She also solicited for bonding with journalists in Kaduna so as to have a common front in information dissemination.

“This very necessary considering the key role journalists play and the need to have a common ground because I know you have the channels and networks to get to all the nooks and crannies.

“We want to have that kind of partnership that helps us to give relevant, realistic and reliable information to the public,” she said.

The deputy governor said that proper information dissemination to the public would go a long way in improving wealth and job creation as well as education.

“We have for instance said education in Kaduna State for the first twelve years is free but do people know?

“The State government had a lot of ongoing programs especially in human capital development but regretted that people were not aware because of lack of information,” she observed.

Earlier in her remarks, Comrade Asma’u Yawo Halilu, the Chairman of NUJ, Kaduna State Council, maintained that the NUJ had been a stakeholder in the promotion of good governance.

“We are aware that government approved N250 million last year to help women space child birth delivery, this is unprecedented because no state has allocated anything close to that before in Nigeria,” she stated.

Comrade Asma’u commended the effort of government particularly in the areas of education, youth development, security, health, urban renewal describing it as unprecedented.

The chairman also called on government to consider capacity training for journalists in Kaduna, adding it would have great impact on its members’ professional conduct and constitutional responsibility for good governance.
