Insecurity in Nigeria is far worse now than it was in 2014 when Boko Haram terrorists abducted hundreds of Christian schoolgirls in Chibok community of Borno State in Nigeria’s North-East. This is according to international human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe, as contained in his Easter message.

“On this Easter after the 8th anniversary of the world’s longest running school mass abduction, sadly the regime’s misguided and misplaced priorities fighting me in America instead of finding terrorists in Sambisa even more appalling.

“As families count 109 still missing innocent daughters eight years later, Buhari thought it the perfect time to grant presidential pardon to over 100 convicted criminals,” Ogebe wrote in the message e-mailed to News Express from his base in Washington USA.

He lamented that “in another signal signature failing, Gen Buhari who was brought back from the garbage dump of history in the belief that he would jail the corrupt in prison has now come to bail the corrupt from prison.”

Continuing, Ogebe said: “As I have consistently maintained, every single thing his predecessor Dr Jonathan did, Buhari has done much worse.

“Jonathan pardoned Gov Alamaseigha but Buhari has pardoned two convicted Governors. By so doing, he has set a record that no Nigerian governor ever imprisoned for corruption remained a convict. They’re now free to return to politics as usual.

“That the President would choose such a sensitive time of national mourning for his distasteful clemency is the kind of brazen insensitivity that could amount to Nigerian political class suicide.

“This senseless insensitivity is now nationwide as Zamfara state which has become a virtual burial ground from Bandito-terrorism is splashing scores of imported luxury Cadillacs on local chiefs instead of securing citizens’ lives.

“With clueless and shameless government indifference is there any wonder that terrorism is worse today than in April 2014?

“Just this week, bandits abducted six female students from the College of Health Science and Technology Tsafe in Zamfara state barely a day to the Chibok abduction 8th anniversary.

“Over 120 people were slaughtered in Plateau state and 24 in Benue state this same week – the latest in three weeksof sustained attacks across.

“Meanwhile for the first time in Nigerian history – and possibly contemporary world history – a train was bombed and over 100 passengers abducted barely two weeks ago.

“In USA, 30 people shot on a New York train this week. The gunman was arrested by the following day as he was spotted on CCTV. Yet the train bombed in Nigeria last month, with 100 passengers abducted even with the Kidnappers releasing a video resulted in no arrests. Not only does the government not know the terrorists, they don’t even know the number of victims!

“Rather than end terrorism, Buhari has multiplied terrorism.

“In Ukraine, a comedian has become a valiant war hero but in Nigeria, a General has become a joke.

“There is no doubt that this Easter 2020, insecurity is far worse than even during the Chibok abductions of 2014. While weeping for the tragedy that has befallen the nation, I pray for God to give us the favor and grace to survive Buhari and celebrate Easter next year with his ruinous reign again returned to the garbage heap of history never to return.
