The new Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Abutu Yaro, has warned kidnappers and other criminals to immediately relocate from the state. He gave the warning upon assumption of duties earlier today, Monday, April 11, 2022.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba last week deployed CP Abutu Yaro to head Edo State Police Command.

He declared while addressing senior officers today in Benin City, the state capital, upon assumption of office, that he “will ensure that hoodlums, especially kidnappers, hibernate from Edo State or face police fire”.

CP Abutu was posted to Imo State at a time the state was on fire, experiencing high level of criminality resulting in burning of police stations and killing several policemen almost on daily basis. The attackers were suspected ethnic militias and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He quickly went to work, personally leading several operations at night to the hideouts of the criminals, aborting planned attacks on police stations. Several SUV cars, large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the militias, while many of them fell by police superior power some were arrested and jailed.

Recalling those feats, CP Abutu assured criminals in Edo State that “if they fail to turn new leafs l treat them with the dexterity and prowess with which I curbed the excesses of hoodlums and brought sanity to lmo State when the state was under siege by hoodlums.”

Abutu Yaro, holds a B.A (Hons) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Defence College (fdc).

He was appointed to the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988. He has served in various supervisory capacities within the Nigeria Police Force, including as Commissioner of Police in charge of Zamfara and Imo State Police Commands.

Until his recent appointment, he was CP Force Provost Marshal, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
