Oliseh off to a shaky start as Super Eagles struggle to goalless draw against Tanzania in AFCON qualifier

Nigeria’s new coach Sunday Oliseh this afternoon began his reign on a shaky note with the country’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles, struggling to a barren draw away to the

Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a Group G, 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game.

It was a game which the less fancied homers dominated, coming close to scoring several times but were denied by goalkeeper Carl Ikeme. Nigeria’s attack led by Emmanuel Emenike and stand-in skipper Ahmed Musa rarely threatened the hosts despite pre-match boasts that failed to be translated into action at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The smooth-talking Oliseh, 40 and an outspoken television pundit with little practical coaching experience, stood all through the match, barking out instructions from the sidelines, He was suited but removed the suit as pressure mounted.

The former Nigeria skipper had boasted about building a potent new team after replacing AFCON-winning compatriot coach Stephen Keshi but his debut did not go as expected.

Nigeria XI: Carl Ikeme; Kingsley Madu, Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong, Solomon Kwambe; Nwankwo Obiora, Lukman Haruna (Sylvester Igboun 36'), Moses Simon (Emem Eduok 69'), Ahmed Musa (c), Izunna Uzochukwu; Emmanuel Emenike (Anthony Ujah 61')
