By CHARLES IWUOHA
The Concerned Igbo Stakeholders Forum has condemned the recent killing of policemen at their duty posts within and at the outskirts of Enugu metropolis.
The Leader of the forum, Mr Chukwuma Okenwa, condemned the killings while speaking with Newsmen in Enugu on Tuesday.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, February 10, 2022 armed hoodlums killed three policemen on stop-and-search duty instantly and the fourth victim died while being conveyed to hospital within the Lomalida/Maryland axis of Enugu metropolis.
On Saturday, February 12, 2022, armed hoodlums also killed another four policemen on stop-and-search duty in Obeagu community along Amaechi-Ekeotu-Agbani Town Road the outskirts of Enugu metropolis.
Okenwa said the development was “unfortunate and uncalled for.”
He noted that the Igbo society places high premium on human life and respects the sanctity of human life in its entirety.
He said that those killing and wasting the precious lives of these police personnel should know that those killed were breadwinners of families.
“Our hearts go out to all the families of police officers who lost their lives on Thursday and Saturday respectively, while serving the good people of Enugu State.
“That police officer out there is someone's father, brother, uncle and husband, and as such, we should never rejoice when things like this happen.
“You may have had a sad experience with the Nigerian Police at one point or the other, but kindly note that every nation’s Police Force is a reflection of the quality of human capital development of her citizens.
“We must not forget in haste that the Nigerian Police officers are selected from Nigerians and, as such, will be a reflection of the State of the Nation,” he said.
Okenwa, however, urged all people of goodwill and good conscience to continue to pray for the personnel of the Nigerian Police in these trying times.
