Locked gates of Most Rev Alfred Adewale Matins residence
The Lagos State Government has apologised for the inconveniences and embarrassment arising from the locking up, yesterday, Tuesday, February 1, 2022, of the residence of the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Matins, by the facility manager of the Lagos City Hall.
Director of Social Communications, Lagos Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, disclosed this in a statement issued later yesterday, disclosing that the issue has been resolved after the State Government denied having a hand in the incident.
According to Godonu, “the City Hall gate which is also the only vehicular traffic gate for the house of the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos was locked up by an official of the security company in charge of the City Hall. He did that in spite of being informed that it would amount to locking the Archbishop and his household in.”
“However, the officials of Lagos State Government have since confirmed with apologies for the embarrassment that he was not instructed to do so by any official of Lagos State Government,” Godonu said.
He added that “the official of the Security company concerned has come back to apologize and the situation has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Archbishop and his household.”
“We thank all those who have expressed concern for the well-being of the Archbishop and his household. We pray the Lord for his mercy and protection over all of us throughout the year and beyond,” the statement said.
