Following activities to mark the International Day for Education, a community development and Literacy group known as Brace Up The Young has called for a more inclusive educationplan that could effectively drive human capital developmentand sustainable growth, alongside social impact.

The group which recently carried out a tour of secondary schools across the federation with the aim of teaching, inspiring and equipping young students with soft skills, noted that a lot needed to be done to ensure that the present and coming generations were equipped with the right skillset to enable them become agents of positive changes within and outside their communities.

The youth volunteers from Volunteers Connect sensitized 4,629 students and 107 teachersfrom 45 primary and secondary schools in Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Oyo and Kano states.

The project was also supported by Mr Olalekan Fatodu, the Senior Special Adviser on SDGs to the Governor of Lagos State, Governor Jide Sanwo-olu.

Speaking to newsmen about the tour, the Executive Director, Brace Up For the Young, Mr. Obasanjo Fajemirokun, stressed that effective partnership was one of the tools that made the event engaging and memorable.

According to the Coordinator, collaboration was a hands-on way of driving literacy and drawing results, even as the world marks the day for education.

“We partnered Volunteers Connect, a volunteering and community development platform, to reach out to schools across the federation. This is the second time partnering as we began this last year and the partnership has not only helped us to see the challenges that young people in different educational settings face, but also to work around practical solutions to their challenges. We are looking forward to future collaborations that will drive the impact we seek around the nation’s education sector,” Mr. Fajemirokun stated.

With the theme of this year’s celebration being “Changing Course, Transforming Education”, the Co-founder of Volunteers Connect, Ruhamah Ifere, explained that this year's event brings to the fore the need for innovative ways to transforming education.

Ruhamah also advised that a lot can be achieved when all hands are on deck and intentional strategy sessions backed with actions are done in matters around the educational sector.
