An unidentified female passenger has been crushed to death while four others sustained varying degrees of injury following an along Ekwulobia-Ufuma Road, Anambra State.
The crash which occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday involved a Mercedes 911 truck and a tricycle, a.k.a Keke Napep.
According to an eye witness account, the truck driver was on top speed when it lost control and rammed into the tricycle, killing the woman on the spot and injuring other passengers.
Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, in his confirmation of the incident attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed.
He commiserated with the deceased family, and wished the injured victims quick recovery, just as he warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and maintain safe speed limits.
“A Fatal Road traffic crash Occurred at Ufuma by Ekwulobia-Ufuma Road today, 7th January 2022 at about 14:30hours.
“The crash was between two vehicles: an unidentified driver of a custom Mercedes 911 with registration number: XF814AWK and unidentified driver of a yellow Tricycle with registration number: NNK313QL.
“Five persons comprising 2 male adults, and 3 female adults were involved in the crash. 2 male adults and two female adults were injured while 1 female adult (tricycle passenger) was killed.
“The injured victims were rushed to Queenies Hospital Ufuma were one female adult was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The corpse of the dead victim was deposited at Ajali mortuary, by FRSC rescue team,” he added.
The Sector Commander also said that the vehicles have been handed over to Ajali Police Division.
