TheAtikuKawai Media Group is set to start anationaltownhallmeeting to garner support for the presidential ambition of a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
A statement by Dare Akinniyi, chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Atiku Abubakar National City Council meeting, said the meeting will involve stakeholders from various interestgroups, constituencies and community leaders.
“As a form of participatory democracy, AtikuKawai Media Group is scheduled to hold interactive sessions with Nigerians in the six geopolitical zones through town hallmeetings.
“We are going to listen to Nigerians in all the states of the federation. We will ask them what kind of government they would like to have in 2023 and how their next leader should govern their affairs,”the statement read.
The first edition will take place in Kano on December 4.
The guest speaker at the event is Zamfara State Deputy Governor Mahdi Gusau, while Shehu Sani, a renowned activist, will be the keynote speaker.
The participants of the event will be a former legislator, Dino Melaye; a former commissioner of Agriculture in Kano, Baraka Sani and; a youth activist, Ahmed Adamu.
With the theme “Advocating for National Unity and Prosperity”, the meeting aims to engage both relevant stakeholders in nation building and constituencies, hear community views on public issues affecting the across the country and consequently seek ways to find solutions to such issues.
The group also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to end the insecurity and unite the people before he leaves office.
“We urge President Buhari to stop bragging and address the insecurity that is disrupting the economy of our beloved country. He can put an end to the killings of Nigerians and bring everyone together in the little time left for him and the APC to leave the stage.
“The Town Hall meetings for National Unity and Prosperity are specifically designed to foster broad social interaction between ourselves and members of the public on hot topics such as unity, national prosperity, failed leadership and the way forward.
“The state of our beloved country needs urgent collective efforts to stop the growing negative vices that affect human life, the well-being of Nigerians and governance.
“Unfortunately, the current government is overwhelmed by incompetence and a lack of ideas about how to carry out its statutory functions effectively.
“We cannot say that we have a government when it has not taken decisive measures to defeat the terrorists, bandits and kidnappers who prowl our nation; We cannot say that we have a government when the economy is in shambles with no sense of direction or purpose; neither can we say that we have a government when the education sector is in a chaotic state, without significant investments in any of its sectors in the last six years, “the statement read.
