Delta Assembly suspends Local Government Chairman over misappropriation of funds, insecurity

Delta State House of Assembly yesterday suspended the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Henry Baro, over allegations of misappropriation of funds and insecurity within the local government area.

The suspension followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance raised by the Majority Leader and member representing Isoko North, Mr. Tim Owhefere.

After deliberations on the issue, Speaker of the House, Mr. Monday Igbuya, put it to a voice vote and the lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsed the indefinite suspension of the council boss.

The House further raised an ad-hoc committee headed by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Oboro Preyor, to investigate the allegations against the council boss and report back to the House.

News Express recalls that Effurun, the headquarter of Uvwie, last weekend erupted in violent crisis as a result of the controversial change of leadership in the council’s chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
