Nigerian Army wrestlers shine at All-Africa Games Open Trial, win gold and bronze medals

The Nigerian Army wrestling team at the on-going National Open Trial Championship for the All-Africa Games has put up an impressive performance, winning 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. “This feat is in furtherance of Nigerian Army’s sterling contributions to Nigeria internally and externally in different sectors. This has gone to prove that despite the ongoing war against terrorists soldiers of the Nigerian Army are also actively involved in preparations to ensure Nigeria comes out tops in international sporting events,” Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said.

Private Tochukwu Okeke of Army Headquarters Garrison Physical Training Group defeated the current champion, Perefeya Kiribien of Bayelsa State, in Greco-Roma 75 Kilogramme weight category to earn a gold medal. Similarly, Private Hannah Reuben of 81 Division Physical Training Group won a gold medal in Freestyle 65 Kilogramme Female Category. She defeated Iheanacho Ifeoma of Imo State.

On their part, Corporal Smart Igboko of 2 Battalion and Lance Corporal Joy Eguche of Guards Brigade Physical Training unit won bronze medals.

“It is hoped that the team would win more at the final bouts slated for today at the National Stadium Abuja and will go on to make the nation proud in the forthcoming All’Africa Games,” Col. Usman told News Express this morning.
