The Biafra Nations League (BNL) has warned President Muhammadu Buhari “not to touch any innocent serving National Assembly member from the South East, South South” over alleged sponsoring of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is in detention in Abuja.

BNL challenged the President to present evidence to support the allegation which he made this morning in his Independence Day broadcast.

BNL in a statement jointly signed by the National Leader of BNL, Princewill Chimezie Richards, Deputy Leader, Ebuta Akor Takon, and Chief of General Staff, Linus Asuquo Essien, warned that it create more problems for Nigeria, especially in the Gulf of Guinea where the group is said to have more presence, “if Buhari tries to rubbish anybody from the region in the National Assembly.”

The group insisted that Biafra struggle is not sponsored by any politician in Nigeria, saying that “Nnamdi Kanu and his group started by receiving free will donations from Biafrans all over the world.” Recalling how they started with Kanu in 2013, BNL said that “the Biafrans abroad have been doing enough to finance the movement and not those in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, BNL has urged its members in the South-East and South-South to disassociate themselves from Nigeria’s 61st Independence celebration.

A statement signed by Richards, Takon and Essien described Nigeria as “a dead country waiting for burial.” It also urged the people of the regions “to do away with the Nigerian flags and stay at home to avoid hoodlums attacking them in the name of Biafra.”
