An US-based human rights lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe, ESQ, has petitioned the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, over the status of post-election violence compensation for Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria 10 years after destruction.

A copy of the petition which was made available toNews Expresson Thursday raised several questions.

Despite claims by the government that it has paid out all compensation to affected victims of the incident and paid off certain non-Nigerian citizens in their foreign locations, the lawyer still wondered why offices of the Christian Protestant Chapel of Salvation at ABU burnt in the violence has not been repaired till date.

“Did the Protestant Chapel ABU receive compensation from Kaduna State for the damage and destruction done during the PEV by CPC elements?” he queried.

While noting that the Catholic Cathedral was the second and only other property noted to have been destroyed during the supposed PEV on the campus of ABU, Ogebe also wondered if the authorities of ABU or any other authority insisted that they should not be rebuilt.

The activist lawyer also sought to know if the Catholic Church ABU Zaria has been paid compensation by the El-Rufai administration for damage and destruction during the 2011 PEV by members of incumbent Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s defunct party, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

He also asked the Governor to explain if any authority has at a time disallowed them to rebuild or denied them a new place to build or a temporary place of worship.
