Two vehicles were burnt by people alleged to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) while trying to enforce the group’s sit-at-home order, earlier today, Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

IPOB had on Monday declared that the entire South-East would be on lockdown in remembrance of the attack on the Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia State home its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

In Awka, the Anambra State capital, a tricycle operator was attacked along Arthur Eze Street, with machete cuts on the hand and leg, while his tricycle was also set ablaze.

In Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state, a town service bus said to be conveying passengers from Awka to Ekwulobia was attacked and set on fire.

According to a source, the passengers who were being conveyed by the bus were unharmed, as they were made to disembark, before the bus was pushed into a ditch and set on fire.

When News Express visited the area, the tricycle was still at the spot of the incident, totally burnt down.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPR)), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that officers of the command had been at places where some incidents have been registered, and have restored normalcy in such places.

“On 14/09/2021 at about 9:30hrs the command received a distress on call on a case of Arson and malicious damage along Nanka/Oko road.

“Police operatives are currently on ground now and the situation is being monitored. Normalcy has also been restored in the area.

“The command and Other Security Agencies have since intensify patrols & surveillance.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the attackers stop the tricycle and the commercial bus, chase occupants away and set the vehicle and tricycle on fire. Meanwhile no loss of life was recorded,” he added.
