The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has queried Channels Television for broadcasting a programme on Tuesday that had Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State as a guest.
The query titled, “Notice of Infraction” and dated August 24, 2021, was signed by the Director-General NBC, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, and addressed to the Managing Director of Channels Television.
In the letter, NBC rebuked Channels Television for the failure of its anchors to properly interrogate Ortom, who allegedly made inciting, divisive and unfair comments on the peak hour Sunrise Daily programme in violation of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
Ilelah, who cited the infraction of some sections of the Code, subsequently directed Channels Television to explain within 24 hours of the receipt of the letter why appropriate sanctions should not be applied against it.
Meanwhile, NBC has summoned two of the station’s presenters following an interview they had with Rtd. Commodore Olawunmi on Sunrise Daily on Wednesday. Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu, who were still being quizzed at the NBC office as at the time of this report.
Olawunmi had made several allegations against the federal government, which the commission considered ‘unpleasant’, hence, invited the presenters for questioning.
