Details of how unknown gunmen invaded the security architecture of Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in the early hours of Tuesday, emerged as the Academy’ spokesman, Major Bashir Muhd Jajira, disclosed toNews Expressthrough a press statement.

Jajira said the security architecture was compromised. He said unknown gained access into the residential side around the Afaka area. He confirmed that two officers were killed while one senior personnel was abducted.

He further said rescue efforts have started.

“The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel,” he declared.

He assure the general public that the unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued, adding: “The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy”.

Meanwhile, reactions have been trailing the invasion of NDA. Military analysts, security experts and concerned Nigerians from all walks of life have expressed angst and fears over what many described as disturbing trend in the nation’s insecurity status or rather security index.

In remarks as business and security facilitator based in the nation’s capital, Abuja, Malam Zubairu Umar, said: “The country is dying slowly”. Another elder statesman said “We are systematically getting to the point of no return”. In the same vein, a senior UN security consultant and academia, Prof Echefuna’ RG Onyebeadi, queried “Why wouldn’t this happen particularly with the reintegration of “repentant” Boko Haram terrorists into the Nigerian military by this regime of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari? This is just an indication of things to come! A stitch in time saves nine”. A retired commissioner of police, simply said “No denial”.

Another comment elicited by the development is anonymous. Here is the comment: “It’s more like a nation under siege by its rulers. What a shame! They are doing business as usual…”

Some others went spiritual saying, “Yet, we must never lose faith in prayers. God remains king over the affairs of Nigeria”.
