Aged 97, she reportedly died early Sunday morning, August 22, 2021, in an undisclosed hospital in Abia State.
She was said to have been taken to the hospital last Saturday but did not make it back home.
Reports said Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, had while addressing Catholic Bishops in Enugu reportedly disclosed the incident and that the forum had observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.
When reporters called at the Umuegwu Okpuala Afugiri country home of the Okpara family in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, late Sunday afternoon, her second son, Uzodinma Okpara, was reportedly not at home as he was said to have gone to the hospital.
Uzodinma did not pick calls put across to him or responded to text messages sent to him.
However, an inside source confirmed her death, saying that last Saturday, she had gone to a hospital “only to be heard that she died early this (Sunday) morning.”
