Late Veteran Zikist, Nneora Maria Nwabunike
The death has occurred of Nneora Maria Nwabunike (Nee Chukwuma), a veteran Zikist popularly called Iju Wagon, of Ezenwelike Village, Ukunu-Eziora, Ozuobulu, Ekwusigo LGA, Anambra state.
A devout Christian and Community leader,Nneora Maria Nwabunike was born on March 30, 1930 into the family of Chief and Mrs. Michael Obi Chukwuma and she died at the age of 91.
In a statement by the family the burial ceremony is as follows: Thursday August 26, 2021, by 5pm ,Service of songs at Late Chief Johnny Okafor Nwabunike’s compound , Ezenwelike Village Ukunu-Eziora, Ozuobulu, Ekwusigo LGA, Anambra state, on Friday ,August 27, 2021, burial mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ukunu-Eziora, Ozuobulu, Ekwusigo LGA, by 10am and reception at Central school Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ukunu-Eziora, Ozuobulu.
The outing thanksgiving mass will hold at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ukunu-Eziora, Ozuobulu by 9am on august 29,2021.
Before her death. Mrs Nwabunike was a business woman and a politician ,she was a distributor in the then famous Chanrai super stores.
Her political journey started with the then Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe led NCNC. She later became prominent in politics when she joined the late Aminu Kano-led Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as woman leader in the old Anambra State.
She was so active in mobilizing Ozubulu women which led to the formation of a dance troupe and as the leader of that group, her dance steps, speed and accuracy were said by the organizers of events to resemble the shape of the then popular Peugeot 504 wagon ,earning her the alias, Iju Wagon..
She was disciplinarian, a peacemaker, a community women mobiliser, an astute house wife, a politician, a classical entrepreneur and a generous giver .
She was devoted Catholic to the core and won several awards among them is the installation of the Ezinne of the Catholic Church at Ozubulu.
She is survived by eight children, many grandchildren and host of other relations, among the Children areElder Chukwudum Nwabunike, Chief Ambrose Okey Nwabunike (Ogbuefi Nwachinemelu) Rev. George Okafor ,Chief Emma Nwabunike (Ogbuefi Nwafenna) and High Chief Iju Tony Nwabunike (Iju Ozubulu)
