The Nasarawa State Police Command has said arrested no fewer than 30 suspected cultists, armed robbers terrorising residents around New Nyanya and Karu Local Government Areas of the state.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel for the commissioner, AIG Bola Longe on Wednesday, made available to reporters in Lafia, the state capital.
Bola Longe said that the suspected cultists who are members of Red Axe and Vikings confraternity, numbering about thirty had been terrorising residents of New Nyanya in Karu Local Government Area of the state, dispossessing them of their valuables.
“Upon receipt of the information, a team of Police personnel were immediately deployed to the area and six out of thirty of the suspected cultists were arrested. Efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspected cultists while those already arrested will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” ASP Nansel said.
In a related development, the police boss also disclosed that some suspected armed robbers who had been on the watch list of the police were also arrested in Keffi Local Government Area of the state, adding that the suspects were arrested around Tilla area in Keffi LGA while they were making plans on how to attack their victims and cart away their valuables.
“We got credible information about the gang of armed robbers and police personnel attached to Keffi Division conducted the raid at a notorious black spot around Tilla area, Keffi. Seven of the suspected criminals were apprehended and one locally fabricated gun and four 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from them as exhibits,” he said.
AIG Bola Longe had directed that the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, the state capital.
