Youths barricading the Eleme section of the East-West road, Rivers State, to protest the dilapidation of the road have refused to vacate the area three days after.

They instead erected canopies across the road that leads to Onne Port and Port Harcourt refinery preventing all vehicular movement.

The protesters insisted they would not leave the busy road until Minister of Niger Delta Godswill Akpabio and the Federal Government show practical commitment to fix the death trap.

The angry youths from communities in Elele and Ogoni, began their civil action on Monday.

They said it was unacceptable that the section of the road that leads to the Onne Port, which generates billions of naira to the Federal Government, would be left in such sorry state.

The aggrieved youngsters expressed sadness Akpabio had shown lack of commitment to fix the road.

The Leader of the protest, Prince Okeke, said the road had claimed many lives following its abandonment by the government for decades and called for urgent intervention.

Another protester, Darlington Doobie, said he was in support of the action saying his uncle died on the road when a tanker fell on his vehicle.
