There was panic in Odo Owa and Erinmope towns in Kwara State assome youths stormed various Fulani settlementsand issued a 24-hour eviction notice to them.

Muhammad Saliu, a resident of Erimope, said some Fulani youths were attacked on Tuesday evening.

“It took the glory of God before they were released. This is coming a month after youths entered into villages occupied by Fulani and burnt their houses, while carting away all their belongings,” he said.

Muhammed Saliu added that, “Three days ago, a man was kidnapped (as they claimed but no any clarification on it) between Odo Owa and Erimope. Suddenly, some OPC members and vigilantes stormed our villages searching house to house. During the search, they stole many items, including 4 phones and undisclosed amount of money.

“After they were done with searching, they said they had given all the Fulanis 24 hours to vacate the area, if not, no one will be spared. They blocked the road, where they caught and beat many people that were returning from the market. They took one man to the Police after beating him and lied against him that he is a kidnapper. Yesterday morning they came back and said the kidnapped person had been released,” he said.

Saliu added that Fulanis have lived in the area for over 120 years and now some people are forcing them to leave.

“We reported to the police station, and the traditional ruler of Erimope, he said his great grand fathers have been living with Fulanis for over a century without any problem. So, he as a king is not issuing any quick notice to any Fulani.

“The leader of the OPC of Erimope also assured us that nothing will happen to us. But despite these, we still live in fear and anxiety as there are still people threatening us. We therefore call on the security agencies, the Emir of Ilorin, and Kwara state Governor to come to our aid before it’s too late,” he stated.
