A 48-year-old man, Thomas Igbo, has been nabbed by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly having sex with three of his female children.
The suspect, an indigene of Ikolo, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu but residing in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka LGA, Anambra State, during his parade by the NSCDC in Awka confessed to abusing his eldest daughter but denied sleeping with the two others.
Igbo blamed his action on the influence of alcohol.
Igbo’s secret was exposed by his four-year-old daughter who confessed the father’s abuse to a human rights group known as Child Protection Network who facilitated the arrest.
Meanwhile, report from the Ntasi Centre for Sexual Assault Cases, General Hospital Enugwu-Ukwu, confirmed that the three girls were severally molested.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. David Billie, said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN calls off strike and on completion of investigation.
While calling on parents to be more responsible in taking of their children, described the action as painful.
Narrating how the abuse was discovered, Spokesperson for Child Protection Network, Mrs. Okwuchukwu Chukwuenyem, said the case was brought to their notice after a neighbor noticed the despicable behavior of the man.
He said: “The man’s daily chore was to take the children at different times on daily basis, mostly between 9pm and 10:30pm but what made the neighbour raise eyebrows was the day he asked them in Pidgin English, “e sweet?” to the neighbour’s hearing.”
