2023 Women World Cup: Nigerian referees may miss out due to lack of VAR knowledge

Confederation of African Football (CAF) referees instructor Chukwudi Chukwujeku, has raised concern that the two selected Nigerian Match official for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand may be technically knockout from the mundial due to poor knowledge of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) which presently not in use in the country.
The referees instructor made this know at the just concluded C Diploma course of Football Coaches Association of African Nations (FCAAN) in Akure.
He said VAR is one of the criterial to select the final officials for the World Cup.

The well attended C Diploma Course by FCAAN is to keep Nigerian coaches up to speed with new trend of the beautiful game.
CAF referees instructor Chukwujeku who lectured the coaches on the rules of the game revealed that the two of Nigeria’s finest referees Ndidi Madu and Mimisen Iyorhe shortlisted by FIFA for the 2022 World Cup are on brink of missing out unless the country make steps to align the officials with some other African countries where the VAR is being used to improve their knowledge on the usage of the technology.
According to the foremost instructor VAR is key to final selection scheduled for January next year.
FCAAN President, Dr Terry Eguaoje at the closing ceremony urged Nigerian coaches to always seek knowledge in a way that rub on the standard of the players under them.
While Ondo State Football Association Chairman, Otunba Dele Ajayi stated that the course by FCAAN is planning for the future and warned Nigerian coaches against age cheat in football. (Daily Independent)
