The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Chris Owolabi, has urged youths in the state to always exercise restraint when they apprehend by not taking the law into their hands.

He made the call on the heels of the recent burning of about five suspected criminals by irate youths in Obosi and Nkpor area, both in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

Owolabi urged youths to endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest police station whenever they are apprehended, saying it would afford Police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigation into the nefarious activities of the suspects; and bring them to justice in accordance with extant laws.

A statement on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, condemned the act of jungle justice used by some members of the public whenever they arrest suspects in respect of criminal allegations without recourse to the Police for proper investigation.

The statement partly reads: “The Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Owolabi while thanking members of the public for assisting the Police in apprehending suspected criminals also urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking the law into their hands.
