The National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers has embarked on a nationwide strike due to unfair labour practice by China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited.

Addressing the journalists in Kaduna on Monday, the Chairman Kaduna State Council, Comrade Shola Oyelayo, said the company violated relevant labour laws. These, he said, include casualization of workers, and non-compliance with health and safety standards at work place.

Others are non-implementation of condition of service, non-payment of out of station and transfer allowances and poor industrial relationship practice.

Comrade Oyelayo lamented that the union had series of meetings with the management of the company but it failed to meet their demands.

He said they embarked on indefinite strike after the expiration of 14 days ultimatum notice which the management still failed to recognise.

Comrade Oyelayo further explained that the strike is nationwide and all the gates of the companies would remain closed till further notice.

Responding, the Director of China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited, Mr Liu, said the company would call an emergency meeting to address the workers’ demands.
