A disposable cup and plates factory located along Hero Road in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, was on Friday evening gutted by fire.

It was gathered that the fire outbreak, which started from the warehouse part of the factory where they keep raw materials for production, consumed property worth millions of naira.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said that on receipt of the information, Police operatives led by DPO Harbour Divisional Headquarters rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent looting by hoodlums.

He said that the state Fire Service was contacted and they responded promptly, saying that there was no loss of life or injuries reported.

The PPRO added: “Preliminary investigations reveals that the Fire outbreak started from the warehouse part of the factory where they keep, raw materials for the production of the disposals products.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police CP Monday Bala Kuryas has ordered discrete Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to unravel the cause of fire and ascertain the level of damage.”
