A Department of State Security (DSS) operative, recently posted to Akwa Ibom State Government House, Uyo, on Thursday harassed and barred many top government officials including journalists, from attending the inauguration of the recently appointed members of the Technical Committee for the realisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport by the Akwa Ibom governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel.
The security man, in his early 20s, was seen shouting, running and barking at every one and vehicles conveying the guests, at the gate of the EXCO Chambers, venue of the inauguration ceremony, thereby causing long queues of the vehicles.
A senior Mobile Police (MOPOL) officer had to caution him but he also resisted him.
Efforts by some other Mobile Police officers at the gate, led by one Mopol Edet Udoh, assisted by Cpl. Godwin Akogwu and Cpl. Edem Effiong, as well as four MOPOL official out-riders on the convoy of the governor, to advise him against the odd behavior was also unsuccessful as he was barking at them, asking: “Do you know me?, Do you want to come and teach me my work?.
News Express reports that some of the notable dignitaries harassed, included the immediate-past Senior Special Assistant (Media) and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Godswill Akpabio, Pastor Anietie Ukpe, who was delayed for over 20 minutes.
Also affected was the duo of Elder Godwin Ntukude, out-gone Commissioner for Transport, and Mrs. Gloria Useh, the executive Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, who directed her driver to reverse, and consequently left the venue, among other personalities, as she was rudely refused entry..
The 10-member Technical Committee for the realisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area, is chaired by Barr, (Mrs) Mfon Usoro, a one-time director-general of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
