Security operative killed in gun battle with Boko Haram in Kaduna

Two Boko Haram suspects yesterday escaped in Kaduna after a gun battle in a village known as Ungwan Keke-B in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna between them and a team of joint security operatives including the army, police and State Security Services which led to the death of one of the operatives.

Our correspondent gathered from eye witnesses who pleaded anonymity that the team of the security personnel raided the area at about 12:00 a.m. Sunday night when the area became saturated with gun shots that lasted for hours.

According to the eye witness, although the two Boko Haram suspects whose names could not be ascertained escaped, their wives were arrested by the security operatives after the gun battle that left their buildings shattered.

Their women were taken away by the security operatives to an unknown destination, the eye witness said.

Confirming the testimony of the eye witness, the Dagaci (Village Head) of the area, Mallam Suleiman Mohammed, said that they started hearing gun shots at about 1am.

He also said the team of security operatives later announced that the neighbours should all come out of their houses and ordered them to leave the area to avoid being caught in the cross fire.

When New Express visited the area, the buildings where the Boko Haram suspects were residing where in shambles and the blood of the dead security operative could be seen on the floor.

Several efforts and calls made to the Deputy Director Army public Relation of the 1 Army Division Kaduna, Colonel Abdul Usman, were unsuccessful, as his mobile phones could not be reached as at the time of filing the report.
