FIFA Council Seat: Warri Rep Ereyitomi excited, congratulates Pinnick

The member representing Warri Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, has congratulated one of his constituents, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, on his victory and election as a member of FIFA Council, the world highest football decision making body.

Chief Ereyitomi described the Warri-born Delta son and NFF President as a distinguished fellow who has over the years distinguished himself as a seasoned football administrator who served as chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission in 2010 before his appointment as chairman of the State Football Association due to his excellent performance which has spurred him further to the top into CAF and now FIFA Council, saying it is a well deserved focus and reward for hard work.

The Warri National Assembly member, Ereyitomi, expressed satisfaction on the process leading to the landslide winning by Pinnick, saying that is a sign that he is generally accepted by the continent football administrators.

He urged him to attract more football development to Warri, Nigeria and Africa and as well continue making Warri proud.

Spokesman to Warri Federal Constituency Rep, Dr Toyin Agbolaya, and the Senior Legislative Aide, Alex Gbiwen, in a statement felicitated with NFF President and elected council member of FIFA and wished him more soaring in making Warri Federal Constituency, Delta, Nigeria, Africa and the World to reverence the people and the city.

Recall that five rivals namely: Lamin Kaba Bajo from The Gambia, Wallace Karia, Tanzania; Nick Mwendwa from Kenya; and Andrew Kamanga, Zambia, withdrew from the race to support Pinnick.

The election, which held on Friday March 12, 2021 at Rabat, Morocco, saw Pinnick defeat his incumbent, Walter Nyamilandu of Malawi by 43 votes to eight to become the only third Nigerian to take a seat in world football’s highest decision-making organ, after late Etubom Oyo Orok Oyo and Dr Amos Adamu.

Dr Agbolaya and Gbiwen, on behalf of Chief Ereyitomi, noted: “Pinnick, you're moving Warri forward to sure possibilities.”
