Buhari assures of total war against insurgency

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that no Nigerian who suffers any form of incapacitation while in service to this country will be abandoned, assuring all Nigerians that the fight against insurgency and terrorism would be more decisive and purposeful.

President Buhari, who stated this Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony of 2015 Batch “A” (Stream 11) corps members deployed to Delta State, at the NYSC Orientation camp, Issele-Uku, Delta state, noted that his administration was committed to restoring peace in the affected areas and guarantee the security of lives and properties of every Nigerian, including corps members.

The President, whose address was read by the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, also represented by state Deputy Governor, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro, said his administration was prepared and determined to lead the nation with sincerity of purpose, adding that it would continue to support and encourage corps members and the National Youth Services Scheme by quick intervention and fulfilment of statutory obligation at all tiers of government.

He noted that the true change desired by Nigerians must start with everyone, especially the Nigerian youths, saying, they must embrace attitudinal change so as to contribute to national unity and development.

According to him, “The new national rebirth must be championed by you and other youths. You are the vanguard of the change Nigeria needs to realised this dreams of our founding fathers, you must all be prepared and join in this important task.”

President Buhari urged the corps members as agent of national unity and socio-cultural integration to take the programme of orientation course with the required seriousness, adding that the orientation course which is regimented, lays the foundation for a fulfilling service year.

While asserting that the quest for peace and progress has been disrupted and frustrated by social ills as many of them were perpetrated by young people, the President urged the corps members to avoid indulging in crimes and other negative vices that could impede government collective effort to move the nation forward.

He said the current situation in the country calls for unity, commitment and hard work to help its development, assuring that his administration would soon unveil a comprehensive National Youth Empowerment Programme, anchored on the model provided by the NYSC scheme.

President Buhari said it is the goal of his administration to comprehensively address youth unemployment, insecurity and other social vices prevalent amongst the youths, adding that as a globally recognised scheme, the role of corps members as change agents will be properly articulated and harnessed for the benefit of the citizens across the country.

In his address, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and Chairman NYSC Delta State Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Ovie Agas, noted that there are well designed activities to make the corps members stay in the camp fulfilling, exciting and rewarding, saying this include, drills and para-military training, physical exercise, Man ‘O’ War activities, social and sporting activities as well as lectures on various topics that include the tradition and culture of people of Delta State.

Hon. Agas, who was also represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Administration, Mr. Ngozi Isobor, reminded the corps members that they are not permitted to undertake any journey outside their places of primary assignment during the service year. He added that, where and when it becomes necessary to travel, they must obtain written approval from the state co-ordinator of NYSC
