Ex-Borno Governor, Modu Sheriff, surrenders to EFCC

A former Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, has turned self in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be investigated for allegations of corruption.

Mr Sheriff handed himself to the anti-grant agency on Wednesday and is still in the custody of the agency.

A spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, told Channels Television that the former governor had been accused of corrupt practices and had been taken in.

The EFCC had on April 23, moved to declare him wanted when he failed to honour its invitations for questioning.

The allegations against the former governor, the EFCC stated, are not clear.

Mr Sheriff governed Borno State on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Before he became governor, he was a Senator between 1999 and 2003 on the ticket of the same party.

He was a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
