Kebbi State House of Assembly on Monday elected Hon Abdulmumini Kamba as Speaker of the newly inaugurated House.
Kamba is a former Commissioner of Education to former Governor Saidu Dakingari who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win the state assembly election from his Dandi constituency.
He was elected Speaker following a motion moved by Hon Mohammed Buhari Aliero from Aliero constituency, seconded by Hon Bello Yakubu from Birnin Kebbi constituency.
Mohammed Buhari Aliero was elected Deputy Speaker following a motion moved by Aminu Bunza from Bunza constituency, seconded by Hon Mohammed Bello from Danko/Wasagu West constituency.
The Oath of Office was administered on the speaker by the Clerk of the House, Shehu Randali.
In his acceptance speech, the new speaker thanked his colleagues for giving him the mandate to serve them as the leader of the house and promised to lead by the rules of the House.
Deputy National Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketer Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) AlhAbubakar Maigandi Dakingari advised the new Speaker to learn from the mistake of the past leadership of the house in order for the interest of progress and socioeconomic and political development of the state.
He also called on the leadership to support the Committee set up by the Governor to investigate the N83 billion dept inherited from the former Dakingari administration.
“The new Speaker should also support the new government especially in the area of job creation and empowerment of teaming youths and women in order to reduce the rate of street begging in the state,” he said.
“The Governor should also ensure that he nominated people with track record integrity not people that will siphon, divert and corner the resources meant for the masses. He should also pay attention to the neglected education sector such as primary and secondary schools that need to be equipped with modern equipment and professional teachers,” he added.
The new Governor of the State, Sen Atiku Bagudu, his new Chief of Staff Suleiman Argungu, Abba Aliero, State Grand Khadi are among those who attended the inauguration of the new house made up of 24 members.
