English FA Cup Final: Arsenal gun for record win against Aston Villa

This afternoon at Wembley Stadium in England, London outfit Arsenal file out against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in what promises to be a cracking FA Cup final which would draw the curtain on the English football season of 2014/15.

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger will be a record breaker if his side emerges victorious today. He would become the manager with the most FA cup wins in England if his boys lift the trophy as most bookmakers fancy them to do.

However, Wenger is not obsessed about breaking records but just to prepare as well as possible to win one more game.

“It’s difficult to get there,” he said. “The record, I like to beat records, but that’s not the most

important thing on Saturday. The most important thing is we come back together and happy.

“I would love to do it. I’m not focused on that. I’m more focused on the fact we have fought so hard to get there. We went to Man United to get there; we had to win big games, now we want to

win it.”

Arsenal finished their Premier League campaign in third place, thus qualifying automatically for the European Champions League. This would surely be a confidence boost for the impressive players like Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santo Carzola to go for the kill against Aston Villa in order to further enrich the Gunners’ trophy cabinet.

On their part, Aston Villa have successfully rescued their Premier League season from the threat of relegation with the signing of manager Tim Sherwood.

The young boss has revived the form of the club’s deadly striker Christian Benteke, who has fired in some crucial goals of late for the Birmingham team.

Today’s decider in London is Villa’s first FA Cup final in 15 years, while Arsenal are looking to

defend their crown, but Westwood has backed Benteke to strike fear into Arsene Wenger’s men

in the English capital.

“I think he’s back to full fitness now. He was struggling with his Achilles early on and people

didn’t see that, they just expected him to walk back in and fire in the goals,” said Sherwood, adding:

“But he’s back to his best now, bullying defenders and I’m sure they’ll have sleepless nights, they won’t want to be playing against him.

“We know how good we are, if we play like we can do we can match anyone. We’ve got

internationals throughout the team, Fabs (Fabian Delph) and Clevs (Tom Cleverley) are on form,

Christian is a real handful for anyone; I’m sure they’ll be having sleepless nights about him.”

Arsenal got to the final by beating division one club Reading 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium with Sanchez scoring both goals.

Villa saw off Liverpool also by 2-1 in Wembley to reach the final.

Kick off time today is 5:30 p.m. Nigerian time.
