Man climbs tree, vows not to come down until Buhari takes over power

A polygamist in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, has climbed a tree and declared that he will remain there until the country’s incoming President Muhammadu Buhari assumes office this Friday, May 29.

A Facebook post on Saturday by Thaddeus Yimen said that Mallam Kaura, “a husband of two and a father of five,” climbed a tree at Kantoma in Kurgwi Quan Pan LGA since last Friday, May 22, “and said he will not come down till the new government is sworn-in.”

The post was accompanied with a photo of Mallam Kaura seated on the tree-top.

No reason was given for the action but Nigeria has for days been in the grip of hardship arising from crippling fuel shortage.

It is not clear if Mallam Kaura voted from retired army general Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who on March 28 defeated incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria’s presidential ballot.
