Ebonyi and Enugu states have adopted modalities for the monumentation of sectors of their boundary from the first week of March this year.

This was the outcome of a joint meeting of Ebonyi/Enugu Interstate Boundary Committees and officials of National Boundary Commission (NBC) held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

The meeting agreed that grey areas shall be resolved using instruments line already adopted by both states, subsistence certified court judgements as well as administrative practices to serve as a guide in the determination of the boundary.

This is to be carried out under strict supervision of the National Boundary commission in conjunction with the office of the Surveyor General of the Federation and the two state governments.

During the exercise, permanent beaconing of the maim pillars, and the intermediate pillars shall run concurrently with the emplacement of intermediate pillars at the interval of 200m between the main pillars.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State and Chairman of Ebonyi State Interstate Boundary Committee, Dr Kelechi Igwe, stressed the need to abridge time from April 2021 to late February or early march for pillar emplacement exercise.

He called on the meeting to critically examine all issues that have tended to slow down the pace of progress on the Ebonyi/Enugu Interstate boundary and take necessary actions in the definition process and promised the state’s maximum cooperation.

The Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, acknowledged the occasional crisis on the boundary and called for more priority attention to ensure quick completion of the demarcation exercise.

The Director General of NBC Surv. Adamu Adaji, recalled the past efforts on the boundary and disclosed that the Joint Team inaugurated to carry out the outstanding grey sectors has successfully carried out the assignment in greater part of the sectors.

The meeting also received and adopted the report of the Technical Committee of Experts.
