An elder statesman and former Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Simon Okeke, has said that all criticisms of the just concluded Ohanaeze Ndigbo election which produced Prof. George Obiozor as the President General were out of self-centeredness and should be dismissed.

Okeke, who spoke Monday at his home, Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, said he was part and parcel of the exercise and saw nothing wrong that could justify the emergence of Obiozor who he noted had all required to occupy the position.

He explained that the insinuation that Obiozor was the candidate of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma was neither here nor there.

He said that Chief Obiozor, a former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America was elected on merit and not selected.

He noted that Obiozor, like his predecessor, Chief Nnia Nwodo, would take Ohanaeze to a greater height.

“I believe in Ohanaeze Ndigbo and its ability to pilot the affairs of the Igbo and to showcase it to Nigeria. I believe in the leadership that has just handed over to Chief Obiozor on January 10, 2021 in the person of Chief Nnia Nwodo and I endorsed most of his actions as well intended for the good of Ndigbo despite nebulous criticisms sometimes that were self-centered.”

“Nwodo elevated the profile of Ohanaeze to the extent it was never before. And it is my prayer that Chief Obiozor who has taken over from him will improve on what Nwodo has done or not to allow it to go below the level attained so far,” he said.

Chief Okeke insisted that most of the criticisms before and after the election of Obiozor arose from self-centered interest and not from well-being interest and love of the Igbo. (Daily Independent)
