Chief of Staff of Biafra Nations League (BNL) and Leader of Displaced Bakassi Peninsula Youths, Mr Linus Essien, has been apprehended in Ikang-Cameroon border area by Nigerian soldiers.

National Leader of BNL, Princewill Chimezie Richard, confirmed the arrest. He said Essien was arrested at 5pm on Monday, January 18, 2021.

Princewill said the security agencies in Bakassi are accusing the group of setting up an armed group to fight the Nigerian soldiers across the South South and Southeast.

Meanwhile, BNL has also accused Cameroonian gendarmes of apprehending people across Nigerian borders.

The group alleged that five Ambazonias, including members of the Ejagham extraction, have been apprehended at a border village in Boki, and Akamkpa Local Government Areas in Cross River State.

Deputy National Leader of BNL and Head of Operations of its online BBS Media TV, Ebuta Akor Takon, made the disclosure in Ikom, Cross River State.

He lamented that since the group met with Ambazonia separatists at Enugu in September 2020, French media reports have linked members of BNL to attacks in the border towns in the English speaking region of Cameroon.

BNL also warned that a Biafra-Southern Cameroon team up would be worse than Boko Haram, recalling “how Cameroon gendarmes were allowed by Nigerian soldiers to come into Nigeria through Ikang-Cameroon border to apprehend Ambazonians and Bakassi Peninsula natives.”

BNL called on the Nigerian government to caution President Paul Biya to respect international boundaries or it would join the Ambazonia forces to make the borders a no go area.

Takon said members of the group will commence hoisting of Biafra flags along Cameroon border towns from February to create consciousness in the Gulf of Guinea, saying that BNL will not be deterred by the activities of Nigeria and Cameroon military.
