Akpabio condemns Uyo Science Park, tags it failed project

Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has described the Science Park, Uyo, inherited from the previous administration as a failed project.

Akpabio, who stated this during his valedictory State Executive Monthly Prayer meeting at St. John’s Chaplaincy, Government House, Uyo, said: “The Science Park, to me, was not an abandoned project. The Science Park was a failed project. A failed project is a project that money has been paid for and the person neglected to do it.

“The Science Park was contracted at about N5.6b and from the records about N5.3b had been paid upfront to the contractor, a South African Company and nothing was done. But the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort and Akwa Ibom International Airport were, to me, ongoing projects and I went in and completed them.”

The governor, who noted that his administration has not abandoned any project inherited from the previous administration, stated that all the projects inherited by his administration have been completed and delivered to the people except the Ibom Science Park.

Akpabio, who listed some of those projects he inherited from the previous administration to include the Ibom International Airport, Le Meridien Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, thanked the men of God for partnering his administration in the eight years in prayers and intercession, charging them to be courageous.

In his homily, Rev. Prince Antai who preached on the theme, Thanksgiving said thanksgiving was appreciation to God for what He has done, and advised leaders not to neglect the place of thanksgiving.

The Rev. Antai, who said the prayer meet was the 94th edition of the prayer since the inception of the administration, noted: “Today is a day of thanksgiving because God has done a lot for the State. Every prayer prayed in this place has always received God’s answers. And for these eight years, we have returned to say God ‘thank you’.”

The State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Cletus Bassey, in his remarks thanked the governor for his unbroken partnership with the Church, noting that the governor was leaving the State better than he met it.

The prayer meet featured prayers of the nation, state and the members of the executive council and song ministration.
