Unknown persons have shot dead three police officers while two others were seriously injured with bullet wounds at Onueke Police Headquarters, in Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State.

News Express gathered from a reliable source that the policemen were attacked by suspected hoodlums who invaded the police station at about 10pm on Friday night.

News Express further learnt that the slain officers were two inspectors and one female who was relaxing in her room when the hoodlums struck.

It was also gathered that the attackers took away two AK 47 rifles kept at the station.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebonyi State Command, DSP Loveth Oda, confirmed the incident. She disclosed that corpses of the slain policemen had been deposited in a mortuary while the two injured ones were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Speaking on the incident, the state Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr. Stanley Emegha, explained that government was shocked by the incident and had given security agencies 48 hours to brief the government on how such breach occurred without any intelligence to forestall it.
