About 200 million naira has been released to Bayero University Kano (BUK) for the procurement of nuclear research equipment.
Addressing a news conference on the forthcoming 31st Convocation Ceremony of the institution, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, said that a Bio Technology Research Centre has already been established under which the Nuclear Research Program will be conducted.
According to Prof Rasheed, the University has already sent some lecturers abroad to obtain a Ph.D in Bio Technology and return to take charge of the centre.
The VC also said that 18 billion naira grant was secured from the World Bank to fund the University’s Centre for Dry Land Agriculture. This is in addition to over 28 new departments created so far in the university.
Meanwhile, the 2015 convocation ceremony lecture, according to him, would focus on the ‘New Government Transition, Realities, Expectations and Challenges’.
