Renowned intellectual, Dr. Jimanze Ego-Alowes, has lost his battle to cancer. He died yesterday – Christmas day – in Warri, Delta State, were he was receiving treatment.

A “journalist, poet and writer with a passion for new knowledge and human development” – as he described himself, Dr. Ego-Alowes was a product of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the author well-received books. His areas of interest were economics, sociology and strategy. His last book, The University-Media Complex As Nigeria’s Foremost Amusement Chain, was published in 2018.

Bemoaning his death, one of his friends and former school mate, Chido Nwakanma, wrote last night on Facebook: “Jimanze Ego-Alowes. Shocking. How? Why? And why again? Lord have mercy.

“Goodbye, brother. Goodbye, Renaissance man of great intellect.

“Uwadiegwu and uwaodionyenfe. Ewooo.

“Thank you, Lord, for the experience of sharing this space with Dr Jimanze Ego-Alowes, scholar and ideas man!”

The late Dr. Ego-Alowes, whose birthday was December 1, was celebrated while alive by some of Nigeria’s leading minds and scholars, among them Akogun Tola Adeniyi, Chinweizu, Dr. Boniface Chizea and Anote Ajeluorou, who said the following about him:
