A pan-African socialist movement, the Progressive Students Movement (PSM), has condemned “in all totality the murder of Abiodun Gbadebo, a 400-level student of the University of Ibadan In affiliation with Special College of Education, Oyo, Education Management Department.”

The President of group, Mr. Bestman Okereafor, made the condemnation in a statement issued to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday, December 24, 2020.

“Gbadebo was alleged to have been killed by the Amotekun Security Corps on December 18 exactly around Sabo Junction of Oyo town in Oyo State.

“PSM demands justice for late Gbadebo and calls on the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to, as a matter of urgency, provide the Amotekun personnel who killed Gbadebo and equally prosecute him accordingly,” Okereafor said.

Reacting to the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its nine-month strike, PSM urged stakeholders in the education sector to come up with modalities to end incessant strikes in tertiary institutions.

It said in the statement: “The attention of PSM has been drawn to the decision of the leadership of ASUU to suspend its nine-month-old strike which began on March 23 and suspended on December 23, 2020.

“As progressives and intellectuals, we demand a total and permanent end to incessant strikes by both the academic and non-academic staff unions in tertiary institutions nationwide.

“The incessant strikes in tertiary institutions have over the years successfully jeopardized the future and lives of many Nigerian students and youths.”

The PSM boss equally lauded the Federal Government in its pro-activeness in rescuing the kidnapped Kankara students.
