Kaduna, Enugu and Jigawa states have been rated top in accountability processing in governance, according to a report presented by Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN)

Presenting the 2019 ICAN Accountability Index (ICAN-AI) Report on Wednesday at the ICAN office in Lagos, Zakaria Muhammed, ICAN’s Chairman Steering Committee said the report rated Kaduna first with 72.7 percent, Enugu second with 58.2 percent and Jigawa third with 55.9 percent.

While Edo state was the last on the list with 15.1 percent, followed by Adamawa 16.3 percent and Imo 16.5 percent.

Muhammed said that the objective of the report is to provide a holistic, objective and evidenced-based framework for assessing performance of public sector entities that support improvement in public governance.

He said it is also to encourage fiscal responsibility and good Public Financial Management (PFM) practices to engender transparency and accountability in Nigeria and also serve as a tool to educate citizens to demand accountability from those charged with public sector governance and support improvement in PFM system Improve quality of governance in Nigeria.
