The Delta State Police Command says 37 Police officers were killed in different attacks between January 2019 and October 2020.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Hafiz Inuwa, disclosed this to journalists in Asaba during a recent chat. He disclosed that the officers were killed while on duty by armed robbers, hoodlums, hit-and-run drivers and during the EndSARS Protest of last month.

He said that the EndSARS protest was fueled by some criminal-minded persons and inspired by fake news, adding that “people hate police, but it is only those that are criminal-minded that hate them because police go after them.”

CP Inuwa stressed that Chief Kenneth Gbagi is still on the police wanted persons list and will be arrested whenever he is found.

“He evaded police invitation to clear some allegations against him, particularly his role in the alleged stripping of some employees of his business outfit,” the Delta Police boss said of the former Minister of State for Education.

Inuwa noted that rather than honour the several invitations extended to him, Gbagi went to court to secure an injunction restraining the police from arresting him over the alleged stripping case.

The CP explained that while the police would respect the court injunction on the matter for which it was granted, there were several other allegations against the former Minister that would warrant his arrest.
