The Biafra Nations League (BNL) has insisted that the Biafran struggle is not an Igbo movement.

It however regretted that some pro-Biafra groups lack what it takes to speak for other tribes.

Speaking over the weekend, Deputy National Leader of BNL and Head of Operations, BBS Media, Ebuta Takon Akor, recalled how over 100 members of the group from Ahoada and Onelga Rivers State were arrested in Bayelsa State on August 17, 2019 during a meeting with the former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo. He wondered why Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike would claim that the people of the state were not involved in the Biafra struggle.

Takon regretted that the media has not helped matters, stressing that all attention has been in Igbo land and groups championed by only the Igbos, while admitting that the South-Easterners are majority in the movement.

“We cannot throw away the efforts of the rest section of Biafraland because a Governor said that he is not an Igbo man, or that he his people are not involved.

“The truth is that Rivers people are much in the movement; I don’t know of other groups but they’re much in BNL.

“During the inauguration of Biafra National Council in Bayelsa State last year it was our members from Ahoada and Onelga that were arrested on their way and in their numbers, even the Ijaw Youth Council were saying same thing Wike said, that the Igbo wants to destabilise the state by holding Biafra meeting there, until they discovered that those arrested were from Niger Delta,” Takon said.

He further disclosed that his people of Cross River State, especially his Ejagham people, are actively involved in the movement, adding that BNL – formerly known as Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) – is a multi-ethnic movement.

The BNL Deputy Leader recalled how he led members of the group to hoist Biafra flags along Cameroon border area in Ikom, Cross River State protesting the Covid-19 lockdown.
