Scene of an electrocution
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
A staff member of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Mr Morris Nonyia, has been electrocuted while on alleged illegal duty at Ojedi Street by Mbah junction in Inland Town Onitsha, Anambra State.
The middle-aged man, an indigene of Inyi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, and an Operation Technician at EEDC office, GRA, Onitsha, was working at power installations in the area when electric power supply was restored, leading to his electrocution.
He was said to have recently gained promotion after weeklong training in Enugu.
A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the deceased was working at power installations in the area when electric power supply was restored, leading to his electrocution.
It was also gathered that the deceased was rushed to hospital, where he was confirmed dead and his remains deposited at the Onitsha General Hospital mortuary.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable.
While saying that the matter was under investigation, he disclosed that the job that caused Nonyia’s death was not what he was hired to do by EEDC.
“I can confirm to you that the deceased was on an illegal operation when the unfortunate incident happened,” Eze said.
