A wheel barrow pusher has been crushed to death by a Dangote truck at Onitsha, Anambra State.
The accident, which occurred near Zenith Bank, along Onitsha-Owerri road, around 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, was blamed on the Dangote truck with no registration number.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver suddenly left his lane due to excessive speeding and crushed a pedestrian – a truck pusher who is well known in the community. This triggered the anger of the youths who immediately set the truck ablaze when the driver was nowhere to be found.
A rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was immediately mobilised for rescue operations, only to be intercepted by the angry youths who took the corpse of the victim away.
The FRSC Anambra Sector Commander, Andrew A. Kumapayi, in his condolences to the deceased’s family advised pedestrians to always use the pedestrian bridges where available.
He also warned motorists, especially truck drivers, to abide by the stipulated speed limits in built-up areas to avoid unnecessary road traffic crashes.
